Dear Friends,
I am sorry that this issue is so late. Busy seems to describe my life this year, as I am sure yours is, too. We have had several graduations and family parties in the past couple of months, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down here. Aside from the two high school graduations that I report on page 13, my oldest grandson just graduated from Bristol University in England. He received a master's degree in chemistry. His family is in England just now to visit him and to attend his graduation. I will have pictures next time we talk.
The post office raised their prices, and that has caused me to change things a bit. When I first saw that first class is now .41, and each additional ounce adds .17, I was quite pleased, since this would actually be cheaper than before. I should have known! What do they say? If something seems too good to be true, it probably IS too good to be true. Upon further investigation, I can no longer mail using the regular envelope rate. It is now considered a large envelope, which costs .80 for the first ounce, and an additional .17 for each extra ounce. As I am typing this, I am not really sure how I will mail them. A trip to the office supply store is in the works, so I can see what envelopes are available. Or perhaps I will use no envelope at all, which is something I have resisted all along.
Enough about this. Have a good summer. By all means, try to go to the 108th reunion. I was able to go one year, and met many very nice people, none of whom I knew before. It is a nice memory to have.

I am always looking for documentation for our ancestors' vital records. Mainly, I look for census records, obituaries, and social security death records. That is why I am adding them to this newsletter, so you can see verification of the information I attribute to our ancestors. Since I have few obituaries for this line, I am printing the Social Security Death records that apply to this line.

I downloaded the above list from the Internet. They include all of the Doutts who registered for the military draft in 1917-1918. The actual registration cards are on the Interent, and some of them give quite a bit of information, (some more than others), including residence, where employed, color of hair and eyes, and nearest relative.
I included in the list what line the person is in. This refers back to the child of John Doutt's (1778-1830) that the person descends from.
*Jae Doutt is actually Joseph Henry Doutt and is listed as such on the registration card. James Arnon Doutt is James Amon Doutt Floyd Andrew Doutt is Floyd Ander Doutt
Although the list appears to be unsorted, it is actually sorted by registration place.

Betty Doutt (Richard L. Doutt's wife) writes that they have moved. They down-sized to a "charming little 1,300 sq.ft. cottage last summer. They now live in a senior community (55 years and older) where they have many activities and programs available. It is not, however, assisted living. She wrote of what a nightmare the down-sizing was, and I can certainly relate to that, since I did much the same eight years ago.
Sadly, Dick's health continues to worsen. He suffers from Parkinson's, and Betty takes care of him, their house, and a myriad of other things as well. Once they had moved into the new house, which was remodeled to make life a little simpler and to accommodate a wheelchair, etc., their lives should be a little easier. Betty is active in the theatrical community, and received the role of Betty Meeks in the hilarious comedy, "The Foreigner", in Oct/Nov. Dick's highlight of the year was his 90th surprise birthday celebration on December 6 at the club house with about 18 entomologists, regular folks and assorted friends in attendance, including the Executive Director of the S. B. Museum of Natural History. A beautifully-framed picture of Chlamydopsis doutti, a new species of Histeridae (a beetle) from Australia, was presented to Dick and named in his honor in celebration of his 90th and in deepest appreciation of his years of dedicated service to the Entomology Department at the S. B. Museum of Natural History.
